Residents’ Bill of Rights

It is our opinion that one of the first documents to be created is a Residents’ Bill of Rights. This is the first step in building the widespread support and the consensus within the existing community necessary for a successful and complete project. Here is an outline that could be used as starting point.

  1. No residents shall be permanently displaced unless it is to new upgraded housing.
  2. Residents shall be involved in key planning meetings.
  3. The existing amount of very low, low and moderate income units shall be maintained or increased.
  4. Replacement units shall be created with the goal significantly increasing the total amount of affordable and mixed income housing.
  5. Replacement units shall be of like kind in terms of numbers of bedrooms.
